Keeping in Step with the Spirit: All School Small Groups Experience

This week, our All School Small Groups gathered for a meaningful time of learning, discussion, and encouragement as we explored what it means to Keep in Step with the Spirit. Using Galatians 5:22-26 as our guide, students engaged in activities and conversations centered on how we can live out the fruit of the Spirit in our daily lives.

Learning to Walk in Step

After reading the passage together, we focused on the phrase “Keep in Step with the Spirit.” To illustrate this concept, students watched an example of people moving in perfect step with one another. This led to thoughtful discussion:

  1. Do you think it took a lot of practice to be able to do this?

  2. How long do you think they can do it before someone makes a mistake?

  3. How is this similar to—or different from—staying in step with the Holy Spirit?

To further bring the idea to life, students paired up and practiced walking in step with each other, then joined in larger groups to see how challenging it can be to stay perfectly in sync. This fun, hands-on activity reinforced the idea that we need the Holy Spirit’s guidance to walk in step with Him and live out God’s goodness in our everyday lives.

Recognizing and Sharing God’s Goodness

Through group discussions, we reflected on how we experience God’s goodness in our own lives. Students shared ways they see God’s generosity—whether through family, friendships, school, or the beauty of creation around us.

Then, we asked an important question: How can we share goodness with each other?

Students brainstormed practical ways to “fill someone’s bucket” in their classrooms, families, neighborhoods, and church communities. Whether through kindness, encouragement, generosity, or acts of service, we were reminded that when we keep in step with the Spirit, we not only experience God’s goodness but are also called to share it with others.

Water Drop Activity

Each student received a water drop cutout and wrote down one specific way they could fill someone’s bucket this week. These water drops serve as a visual reminder that small, intentional acts of goodness have a ripple effect in our community.

Closing in Prayer

We wrapped up our time together in prayer, asking God to help us keep in step with His Spirit and to give us eyes to see opportunities to share goodness with those around us.

It was a powerful time of connection and encouragement, reminding us all that walking with the Spirit is a daily practice—one that brings joy, peace, and unity as we grow together in faith.

How will you keep in step with the Spirit this week?
