Legacy Christian School’s 8th grade class recently took the stage at South Christian High School to perform The Little Mermaid Jr., and it was a tremendous success. The performance showcased the creativity, dedication, and teamwork of the entire class in a musical tradition that is truly unique to Legacy.

One of the most special aspects of the Legacy Christian School 8th grade musical program is that every 8th grader participates. Each student plays an important role in bringing the production to life whether performing on stage, helping backstage, or supporting the many moving pieces that make a musical possible. This collaborative approach allows every student to be involved and experience the excitement of a full-scale musical production.

Preparing for The Little Mermaid Jr. required weeks of practice and commitment. Students spent many hours rehearsing songs, learning choreography, memorizing lines, and working together to perfect each scene. Through the process, they built confidence, discovered new talents, and strengthened friendships within their class.

Performing at the auditorium at South Christian High School made the experience even more memorable. The stage, lighting, costumes, and colorful set design helped create an underwater world that transported the audience into Ariel’s story. From the opening number to the final curtain call, our 8th graders brought energy and joy to every moment of the show.

This production was made possible by an incredible team who guided and supported the students throughout the process. The musical was directed by Lori Bolt with Kristen Lautenbach serving as assistant director. Betsy Thompson brought creativity and vision to the set design, while Cricket Potvin and Lori Potter designed the vibrant costumes that helped bring the characters to life. Jim Peterson created the lighting design that enhanced the underwater atmosphere of the production, and Sara Brinks served as stage manager, helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes. Their dedication and countless hours of work helped make the musical an unforgettable experience for both the students and the audience. We are so grateful for their time and dedication!

A Unique Tradition at Legacy Christian School

The 8th grade musical is one of the most unique traditions at Legacy Christian School as our program ensures that every 8th grader participates in the musical in some capacity. This creates a shared experience for the entire class during their final year here.

Through this process, students learn far more than stage performance. They gain experience in collaboration, leadership, creativity, and perseverance while working toward a common goal. The musical becomes a meaningful milestone that students remember long after they leave Legacy.

Performing Arts at Legacy Christian School

The performing arts are an important part of the educational experience at Legacy Christian School. Programs like the 8th grade musical give students opportunities to explore their gifts, build confidence, and develop new skills in a supportive, Christ-centered environment.

By performing a full production like The Little Mermaid Jr. at South Christian High School, students gain the experience of performing on a large stage while celebrating their growth as a class. It is a powerful way to mark the end of their middle school journey and celebrate the many talents within the Legacy community.

We are incredibly proud of our 8th graders for the time, effort, and heart they poured into The Little Mermaid Jr.. Their performance was a wonderful celebration of their final year at Legacy and a reminder of the amazing things that happen when students work together toward a common goal!

Congratulations to the entire 8th grade class on a fantastic performance!
