Volunteer
Our Volunteering Program strengthens our community, supports our mission, and provides meaningful ways for families to Be The Light. Rooted in Matthew 5:14, this initiative invites parents and supporters to model Christ-like service, connect with others, and actively contribute to school life through events, fundraising, and more.

The goals of the program are to:

-
Model a spirit of service that reflects our mission and sets an example for our students.
-
Strengthen the Legacy community through meaningful volunteer involvement.
-
Support school activities such as events, fundraising, community building, and teacher appreciation.
-
Help keep tuition affordable and provide tuition assistance by reducing operational costs.
Questions? Please contact our Parent Club at parentclub@legacycs.org
What is the volunteer expectation?
Each household with a child enrolled in K-8th grade is expected to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours each school year.

Can I have another family member or friend help me with my hours?
Absolutely, the household hour expectation can be fulfilled by a parent, grandparent, or other individual as long as it's specified which household the hours should be credited to.

How do I get my volunteer hours?
The Parent Club will manage a SignUpGenius listing all volunteer opportunities. This list will be updated at the start of each school year and throughout the year as new opportunities become available. The sign-up will indicate the approximate number of hours, a description, and timing when applicable.

Are Field Trips covered in my volunteer hours?
No, field trips are an optional opportunity to enjoy time with your child(ren).

I have experience in various fields (e.g., landscaping, sewing, event planning, and building). Can I utilize my skills to contribute to the Volunteer Program?
We would love for you to volunteer your skills and gifts. Please fill out the form below so we can learn more.

I work full-time during regular school hours. Are volunteer options available for me?
Yes, many volunteer activities can be completed at night, on weekends, or over a period of time.
What is considered a household?
A household, for purposes of this Program, is how you’ve completed your enrollment. Some examples include married parents and children in K-8, guardians of children in K-8, single parents of children in K-8, and so on. If you have a unique circumstance that you would like to discuss, please don't hesitate to contact Curt DeYoung (cdeyoung@legacycs.org)

How do I join a committee?
Serving as an at-large member on a Board committee, or volunteering for the Golf Outing, or the Auction Committee, requires completing an application.

How was 10 hours determined?
This is a rounded-down number based on what other schools require and represents what we expect to be a reasonably fair distribution of volunteer opportunities across the number of households at Legacy. We know that some of you are very dedicated volunteers and have expressed a willingness to exceed the 10-hour expectation. We thank you for your generous gift of time and hope you will continue to stay engaged.

What if I have a concern about meeting the 10-hour expectation?
If you believe you will be unable to meet the 10 hours expected by the new policy due to health or other extenuating circumstances, please continue to help where you can and discuss your concerns with Curt DeYoung (cdeyoung@legacycs.org). We expect waivers to the 10-hour expectation to be the exception rather than the rule, as engagement is a key component of community building, which is a core part of our culture here at Legacy. We want to get to know you and make you feel welcome.

What can I do if I already have 10 hours but would still like to help?
On our Volunteer Self Report Form, you have two options:
-
Indicate a Different Household – You can choose a family you’d like your hours to go toward.
-
Click “Yes, donate my hours.” – Your hours will be placed in a general pool and given to families with extenuating circumstances who are unable to complete their 10-hour requirement.
Either way, your willingness to keep serving makes a meaningful difference—thank you!
